In October 5- 6, the first OARSI China Forum was held in Nanjing, the beautiful historic ancient capital of 6 dynasties in China history, and the political center of the modern Jiangsu Province at the east coast of China. This is the first time OARSI organized a session in Asia. Topics in this Forum include genetic, molecular, cell aspects and clinical management of osteoarthritis, presenters from all over the world had two full days of presentations, questions & answers, and discussion.
Linda Sandell, the president of OARSI; David Hunter, (Royal North Shore Hospital, Australia); Shiro Ikegawa and Naoshi Fukui, (Laboratory for Bone and Joint Diseases, RIKEN, Japan); Aspasia Tsezeo, (Medical School of University of Thessaly, Greece); and reputable Chinese orthopedic specialists including Yan Wang (chief, Chinese Orthopaedic Association), Guoping Li (Chief, Chinese Sports Medicine Association) Yong Qiu (Board member, Chinese Orthopaedic Association), Fuxing Pei (Vice Chief, Chinese Orthopaedic Association), Yingfang Ao (Vice Chief, Chinese Sports Medicine association), Xiang Gao (Director, National Model Animal Research Center) and nearly one hundred Chinese scholar and orthopedic surgeons attended this meeting.
We received over 100 abstracts on OA research. They focused on genetic study, biomarkers, tissue engineering, Chinese traditional medicine, signal transduction et al., and 15 of them were selected as oral presentation. All the participants shared their ideas, news, and recent research findings in osteoarthritis. This forum provided a very good opportunity to socialize and interact with colleagues and friends from all over the world.
At the end of the forum, all the participants discussed how to make the next OARSI China Forum more enjoyable and informative for everyone.
