Peter van der Kraan

Peter M. van der Kraan is Head of Experimental Rheumatology, Radboudumc, Nijmegen, The Netherlands. He has been awarded a PhD in 1989 on the role of sulphate depleting drugs on cartilage metabolism. Research interests include the pathophysiology of osteoarthritis and joint biology with a special interest in the role of growth factors and cytokines (e.g. TGF beta, BMPs, Wnts) in pathological processes. Research is focused on the elucidation of the mechanism of tissue destruction in osteoarthritis, and other rheumatic diseases, and application of this knowledge in the prevention of joint damage and the stimulation of joint repair. Research covers the continuum of joint destruction to joint repair and tissue engineering.
