Rita Kandel MD is a clinician-scientist. She is Chief of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Sinai Health System and Director of the Collaborative Program in Musculoskeletal Sciences. She is a Professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, core member of the Institute of Biomaterials & Biomedical Engineering and cross- appointed to the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto. She is an Associate Editor of Cartilage, and is on the editorial board of Osteoarthritis & Cartilage and Journal of Experimental Orthopedics.
Her research focusses on investigating mechanisms regulating tissue formation with the goal of developing regenerative medicine approaches for biological repair of joints and intervertebral discs. Her honours include being appointed a Fellow, Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and an Honorary Fellow of the International Cartilage Repair Society.
