Arthritis Program UHN: Campaign to Cure Arthritis-Scholarship

The Arthritis Program is the largest multidisciplinary Arthritis Research Program in Canada. The Arthritis Program offers an approach to care that focuses on the patient while relying on several disciplines. We’re dedicated to the prevention of the disease while also working on options for both surgical and non-surgical treatments. Our goal is to find a cure for arthritis, and our mission is to develop a world-leading centre that prevents and effectively treats the disease. Aim of the Scholarship: To provide an experiential learning opportunity in osteoarthritis research that will facilitate the development of interdisciplinary skills across methodologies, including biomarker exploration using next generation sequencing, data mining, and computational biology. The successful candidate will spend 3 months working with members of The Arthritis Program who are currently working on identifying novel biomarkers for osteoarthritis.   

Eligibility: Graduate students and Postdoctoral fellows in arthritis research (basic, clinical, epidemiology, translational research)

Scholarship Amount: $6000 CAD

Scholarship Duration: 3 months

Location: The Arthritis Program, University Health Network, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Application Instructions:
1.    Brief description of applicant’s existing skill set and ways in which these may be expanded working with the team at The Arthritis Program (250 words)
2.    Letter from the applicant’s supervisor explaining the benefit of the exchange for the trainee and for establishing ongoing collaborations with the host institution (250 words)
3.    Applicant’s CV demonstrating skills most relevant to the project (maximum 4 pages)

Decision: February 10st 2018.

Criteria for evaluation:
Applications will be evaluated based on potential benefit for the applicant’s training; international, national, and regional/state collaboration; and interdisciplinary skill development. All applications will be reviewed by three independent members of The Arthritis Program according to the following criteria:
-    Potential benefit for the applicant
-    Type of collaboration (regional, national, international)
-    Strength of the application based on CV
