In Memoriam-Dr. Kenneth Brandt

The osteoarthritis and rheumatology community mourns the recent loss of Kenneth D Brandt, MD.  Dr. Brandt made numerous fundamental contributions to osteoarthritis research, both in the laboratory and in clinical studies. His meniscal research model of OA pathogenesis and his studies of OA treatment have provided invaluable, foundational insights.  Dr. Brandt mentored a generation of trainees and generously shared his wisdom and insights with osteoarthritis researchers across the globe. Dr. Brandt received many awards including the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from OARSI in 2009 and served on the OARSI board from 1996-2000.
Dr. Brandt trained in Rheumatology at Boston University, established and led the Division of Rheumatology at Indiana University of Indiana and also had affiliations at the University of Kansas and New York University.  We lost a marvelous friend, colleague and teacher, whose insights and passion for OA research and care will continue to inform the field for generations.
